3 Dads Walking 2024 Day 19 - Burgh on Bain to Coningsby

Arrived back at Burg on Bain to find half a dozen people waiting for us; 3 friends of Tim and 3 from a family touched by suicide earlier this year. We set off into the Lincolnshire countryside as the sun burnt off any mist; the paths were clear and well-marked, the grass was heavy with dew.

Our route south took us due south through the villages of Donington on Bain, Market Stainton, Ranby and Hemingby (where we met a very enthusiastic herd of Lincolnshire Red cattle). At every village and hamlet people came to greet us and pop money into our bucket. We are finding generosity and kindness everywhere we go on our walks.

The day grew warmer as we walked. This was the first time on our walk that we had seen any weather could be described as warm , almost summerlike – lovely but we don’t want it to get too hot(!)

Lunch came in Horncastle where Lawrence, our host for the previous three evenings, had gone to St Mary’s Church where he asked the vicar whether there were any seats. Consequently when we arrive a semicircle of seats were laid out in the shade for us. We need Lawrence to accompany us on future walks.

On the topic of Lawrence we also need to mention Kate, his wife. Kate has been away of a scout weekend since Friday morning however we found that before she left she had created evening meals for us (including puddings) and left Lawrence with instructions on how to cook everything. We really appreciated everything they (and everyone else who helped us) have done for us.

3 Dads Walking version of an F1 pitstop……

The afternoon saw 3 Dads along with a 14-strong band of supporters continue to follow the River Bain. We were pleased to walk for a while in the shade of a tall hedge which sheltered us from direct sunlight. We were moving out of the rolling hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds into the flat lands further south.

After we finished at Coningsby we were treated to our evening meal by Sue of the Blue Bell Inn Tattersall – a lovely way to finish the day.
