The Young’Uns

As we walked through Cumbria on our second walk, we were met by Sean, Michael and David - The Young’Uns, an award-winning folk trio based in NE England.

They had heard about 3 Dads Walking at a singing weekend they’d held earlier in the year; at that event Sean was speaking to Neil, Andy’s brother. Neil handed Sean a 3 Dads Walking card, pointed at Andy’s photo and said, “That’s my brother, this is Sophie, my niece. We lost her to suicide. These guys walked 300 miles in memory of their daughters raising awareness of suicide prevention. You should write a song about them.” Sean looked into our stories and was inspired to write “3 Dads Walking”.

He shared the song with us shortly before our second walk. We were humbled to hear our stories told in a beautiful and emotional way. The Young’Uns said they try to meet us when we walked again.

This short film shows the day they met us as we walked between Shap and Kendal. It really captures how special the meeting was as well as giving some background to the song - an emotional highlight of last year’s walk.

We thank Sean, Michael and David for their interest in our story and the support they’ve given to help us promote our message of hope.

“3 Dads Walking” is on the Young’Uns new album, Tiny Notes, which has just been released and is available to buy here:
