3 Dads Walking 2024 Day 14 - Leeds to Hambleton

As we arrived at the PAPYRUS office at 7.30am we were welcomed by an enthusiastic bunch, most of whom came to walk with us. One of today’s supporters was Keith Senior, another rugby league international and Leeds Rhino’s legend, now working with Rugby League Cares.

Andy getting to know Keith Senior….

After making our way through the backstreets of east Leeds we soon arrived at Temple Newsam where we were met by Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire.

We spoke to Tracy about our girls and what we had learned over the last years. As we approached the magnificent house another mayor appeared! Andy Burnham had come over from Manchester to meet us and Tracy. We had a very productive conversation as we walked and talked – it was clear that Andy & Tracy wanted to do something to move our campaign forward. We look forward to meeting them again (when we don’t have our walking kit on).

Andy Burnham, Tracy Brabin, Deadpool(!) and other supports at Temple Newsam

Onwards from Leeds, into the countryside towards Kippax where we received a warm welcome from some people from the Methodist Church where we were well fed and watered (again!). The support we get from the communities we walk through is unbelievable.

A special mention for one of the people walking with us...John Bell of Walking 4 Hope. This man is a legend! He walks in memory of Jake, his 15-year-old son, who he lost in 2020. In order to cope with his crushing grief John decided to do what he can to help other people; at the moment he is doing a series of challenge walks whilst dressed as Deadpool and carrying a bath surrounded by plastic ducks (each duck carries a name and represents a child locked to suicide)

Our finish was at the Red Bull in Hambleton where we received another wonderfully warm welcome.
